By Hassan Osman Kargbo

Following the summoned of the former President Ernest Bai Koroma to the police Headquarter for questioning on the failed coup attempted in the country, Brenthurst Foundation has called on the government of Sierra Leone not to engage in any witch-hunt activities in the country.

According to a statement from the Foundation, they are concerned that the authorities should not seek to further destabilize the country by engaging in a witch-hunt, which they think is currently taking place with the summoning of Former President Koroma by the Police.

It continued that they knew former President Koroma as a defender of democracy, adding that the Former President is a member of the Brenthurst Foundation Advisory Board.

The statement further that he is notably one of the outstanding leaders who had relinquished power to opponents peacefully in the interests of entrenching democracy, adding that the former President had led election-observation missions across the African continent with great distinction.

They admitted that they believe him to be a man of integrity and standing and find it hard to believe that he would be involved in or support the undermining of democracy in Sierra Leone.

‘We believe him to be a man of integrity and standing and find it hard to believe that he would be involved in or support the undermining of democracy in Sierra Leone,’ they stated.

They asked that the government of Sierra Leone reconsider its approach and, instead of subjecting former President Koroma to questioning, enlisted him to help strengthen democracy in the country and in the region.
