Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road court no.1 Freetown, has Remanded Mohamed Kargbo on his first appearance in court for Larceny – contrary to section 2 of the larceny Act 1916 and Receiving stolen goods – contrary to section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

Charge sheet stated that the accused on a date between 1st and 31st September 2023, at ferry junction, Freetown, did steal and receive a bailey one yellow Mercedes Benz sprinter vehicle with registration # APE 650 value Two hundred and fifteen thousand Leones (Nle 215000), property of Maseray Bangura whilst in custody of Abdul Karim Sillah.

A.S.P Mansaray led prosecution witness no.1 Abdul Karim Sillah, a commercial driver; he recognized the accused at the dock as a driver at Kambia. The witness stated on the said date that the accused met him for favour to borrow him a sprinter car registration number APE 650, which the witness did.

The witnesses added that the car belonged to his sister, the car cost two hundred and fifteen thousand Leones, according to the witness when he asked the accused for the vehicle because the time given had pass, the accused told the witness that the vehicle had broken down on the high way, when the witness went to the said high way the accused was nowhere to be found and his phone was switch off.

The witness concluded that after five months, he received information that the accused is in Makeni, which was where he was apprehended, the witness stated that when he asked the accused about the vehicle, the accused told him the vehicle fell inside the river.

The accused was brought to the kamakue police station, and they were later transferred to the kissy police station, where his statements were obtained. The witness life card was tender in court to form part of the evidence. The matter was adjourned to 18th April 2024 for further hearing.
