One of the leading contenders for the leadership of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Hon Alhaji Musa Tarawally has recently called for the guidance and prayers of Muslim leaders including Imams across the country.
Hon Alhaji Tarawally made the call during one of his nationwide ifta-fast-breaking tours with Imams drawn from Bombali, Tonkolili, Koinadugu, Falaba and party dignitaries from the region in Makeni. He encouraged them to continue to pray for the country and President Julius Maada Bio amidst trending difficulties so that he can succeeds.
He encouraged them to embrace national cohesion, stating that a divisive nation is a chaotic nation, and pointed out that it is when the only when the president succeeds then the nation will be peaceful and further progressive.
Hon. Alhaji Tarawally therefore humbly requested for their guidance and prayers for his aspirations moving forward. He implored the congregation to observe a minute of silence for the late Alhaji Y. D. Kamara who was like a father to him and other notable Imams of blessed memories.
Hon Alhaji Tarawally expressed his profound gratitude to Imams, who are charged with special responsibilities of propagating the word of God/Allah. They acknowledged the immeasurable service and sacrifices they continue to make for the country.
He drew the attentions of Muslim leaders in the north to the drug epidemic, plaguing the nation that needs their attentions on one part, and a collective resolve by the citizenry and government to overcome it. He informed that he has been asked by thousands of his loyal supporters across the country to throw his hat in the ring for the leadership of the SLPP, but he believes in consultations across the country, especially with the Imams.
As a part of Hon Alhaji Tarawally programme, he committed himself towards working on facilitating pilgrimage to Mecca for Chiefdom and District Imams considering the fact that pilgrimage is one of the compulsory pillars/rites of Islam.
Hon Alhaji Tarawally prayed for the Imams and extended gifts to all Chiefdom and District Imams from the United Council of Imams and Imams at District and Chiefdom level from the SLPP as significant aspect of successful fast-breaking with Muslims in that part of the country.
Earlier welcoming the SLPP leadership heavyweight in Makeni and the North as a whole, Alhaji Usman Mans Kanu described Hon Alhaji Tarawally as a friend of Islams. He said that through the initiative on Hon Alhaji Tarawally, the Umrah Welfare Trust has supported Imams and Islam in all chiefdoms in the North Eastern Region.
He praised Hon. Alhaji Tarawally’s service to the nation and his philanthropy across the region, including projects that had touched the lives and livelihoods of over 15,000 Imams who were put on payroll across the country. He added that facilities including regular water supplies are being made available to mosques as well as mosques being constructed in chiefdoms in the four districts.
