The governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has issued a stern condemnation in response to recent violent threats made against international diplomats and Sierra Leoneans.

The party issued this response in a press release issued today 13 May 2023, signed by the SLPP National Secretary General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma.

The threats were allegedly delivered via an audio/voice note message from Abdul Will Kamara, also known as “Adebayor” and “Morlai Kamara,” who currently reside in the Netherlands under governmental protection.

In the alarming audio, Adebayor openly ‘incited’ violence, declaring intentions to carry out physical harm using knives and acid against diplomats and citizens alike. He further called for the violent overthrow of President Julius Maada Bio’s government, illustrating a clear threat to the nation’s peace and stability.

The SLPP, in stark contrast, has consistently denounced hate speech and violence, advocating for inclusivity, diversity, and mutual respect. They emphasize the importance of dialogue, tolerance, and education in addressing differences and fostering national development.

In light of these threats, the SLPP calls for several actions:

  1. Promoting inclusivity: Creating safe spaces for open dialogue and engagement without fear of discrimination or harm.
  1. Advocating for equality: Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all individuals, regardless of background.
  2. Educating and raising awareness: Emphasizing the consequences of hate speech and violence while promoting respect and acceptance.
  3. Condemnation from APC leadership: Urging the All People’s Congress (APC) to publicly denounce Adebayor and distance itself from his call to violence.
  4. Support from diplomatic partners: Encouraging international condemnation of hate speech and violence in Sierra Leone.
  5. Investigation by Dutch government: Calling on Netherlands authorities to investigate Adebayor’s threats and ensure compliance with public safety laws.
  6. Intensified efforts by the Government of Sierra Leonean: Informing the Dutch government of the consequences of Adebayor’s actions and urging cooperation in addressing the threat.

In a joint effort to combat hate speech and violence, the SLPP urges all Sierra Leoneans and organizations to join in condemning Adebayor’s extremist rhetoric, striving to create a safer and more harmonious society for all.
