Members of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association, led by Acting President Dauda Tarawalli, on Friday 24th May, 2024, paid a special visit to the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, at her Bishop House office, Freetown.
The purpose of the visit was to present boxing equipment donated by former international boxer Abdul Bangura, based in London, to the association through Madam Minister.
The delegation was welcomed by the Director of Sports, Haroun Mustapha Korgi.
The Secretary General, Alhaji Komba, provided a comprehensive overview of the significant contributions Abdul Bangura has made to the association, including donating equipment and supporting the welfare of the boxers and members.
In his statement, Abdul Bangura congratulated Madam Minister on her appointment as the first female Minister of Sports in Sierra Leone. He expressed his happiness at meeting her and assured her of his support during her tenure.
He emphasized that this was not his first donation to the association and expressed his gratitude to the association for its role in his success. He pledged to continue supporting the association and the development of sports in Sierra Leone.
He detailed the donated equipment, including boxing gloves featuring the association’s logo, and presented a special gift to Madam Minister in recognition of her contributions to the development of sports in Sierra Leone.
In response, Madam Minister welcomed the delegation and expressed her gratitude to the members of the Boxing Association for their visit.
She thanked Abdul Bangura for his generous donations and his commitment to giving back to the association that had supported him. Madam Minister encouraged other athletes abroad to follow Mr. Bangura’s example and support their respective associations.
She assured him that the donated equipment would be handed over to the Association, expressing her openness to future collaboration with Abdul’s foundation on development projects, and thanked him for the gifts.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Director of Sustainable Sports at the National Sports Authority, Steven Kelfala, representing Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai.
