Sources from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have confirmed solidify and watertight security measures to ensure the enduring peace and tranquillity in the country.
The sources continued that the SLP is not averse to peaceful protest but insist on criteria and procedures which must be followed to grant permission for such.
According to the Public Order Act, organizers of a protest must write to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) requesting clearance.
“If we receive a letter addressed to the IGP, we will now call the organizers to a round table, map out route and agreed on certain terms. So that in an event of breach of agreement, we will have people to hold responsible” said a senior police officer arguing that in recent times, all what they have been seeing or hearing is a plan protest by faceless organizers or individuals on social media.
The Police as moral guarantor of law and order he said would never yield to such protest, citing the June 19, 2024 as a case study.
He went on to emphasise that as a force; they are prepared to enforce law and order for the maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the country assuring the public of their safety and security before, on and after June 19, 2024.
