The Council of Legal Education Sierra Leone Law School officially published the results for the 2024 Bar Examination for students who wish to become legal practitioners and FBC once again without any doubts took the first position in the Bar Exams.

Out of the three hundred and seventy-seven candidates who took the Bar Final Examinations in June this year, two hundred and one sailed through with ninety-two to return for references as the School withheld eighty-four for financial and other reasons.

The results, released late Tuesday by the Sierra Leone Law School, witnessed an increase in the number of passes. Last year, only one hundred and ninety-three received qualifications to become legal practitioners.

This year marked the 34th final exams the School has conducted since it was established in September 1989 under the provisions of the Council of Legal Education Act 1989.

Experts say the number of legal minds in Sierra Leone has grown significantly, with a predominant portion of those practising residing in Freetown.

Each year, the Law School admits an increasing number of new candidates, making the field more competitive.

Ibrahim Abdul Bangura a Student from Fourah Bay College (FBC) emerged as the star pupil in this year’s Bar final exam. Mr. Bangura’s performance has seen FBC gone beyond IMATT College, Njala University law society and the University of Makeni in the final assessment for aspired legal practitioners in Sierra Leone.

Over the years, star Students for the Bar Exams are all students from Fourah Bay College. Students such as Mohamed Asmiou Jalloh in 2023, Adel Bull in 2022, Despaul Black in 2021, and Gbatundu Ndeyia Kutubu in 2020

Since 1990 the Law School has enrolled law graduates holding an honours degree in Law awarded by the University of Sierra Leone or holding any other degree in Law from a recognized university or any other Institution of higher learning of any commonwealth country approved by the Council.

The Sierra Leone Law School provides professional legal training and conducts final examinations for those persons seeking to become members of the legal profession in Sierra Leone.

Upon successful completion of the requirements of the Sierra Leone Law School, candidates are issued a Certificate for Call to the Bar by the Council of Legal Education.

This Law Society FBC is funded by the students’ membership through yearly departmental subscriptions and from other worthy donations. According to them, they’re dedicated to empowering future legal leaders in Sierra Leone through education and training. Their mission is to provide high-quality legal education and training that prepare student for success in the legal profession and contribute to the development of the legal system in Sierra Leone.
