The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka has disclosed that World Food Day will be commemorated on 16th October 2024 in Kailahun district which coincide with the First Anniversary Celebration of the Feed Salone. The theme for this year is “Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future” – Leave No One Behind.
He made the disclosure during a press briefing held on Monday 14th October 2024 at the Ministry’s conference hall, First Floor, Youyi Building in Freetown.
Dr. Kpaka informed the press that the World Food Day is the birthday of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). He said the Feed Salone was first launch by His Excellency the President, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio in Pujehun district during the last World Food Day Commemoration on 16th October 2023.
He reiterated that the World Food Day is for farmers to display their produces and to contribute to the Feed Salone success in achieving food self-sufficiency.
Highlighting the Feed Salone achievement, Minister Kpaka stated that after the launch of the Feed Salone by President Bio, the Agriculture Ministry translated the vision into a very transformational strategy document which is the guiding document for investment in the Agrifood system in Sierra Leone.
The Minister stated that President Julius Maada Bio will launch the first anniversary of the Feed Salone in Kailahun district on 16th October 2024.
