On Friday, November 8th, 2024, 34-year-old motorbike rider Kaifala Koroma appeared before Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon at Pademba Road Court No.5 in Freetown, where he was charged with fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

The particulars of the offence stated that on September 22nd, 2024, at PZ in the Western Area, Koroma fraudulently converted a blue TVS motorbike with registration number AQU 510, valued at eight thousand five hundred Leones (8,500), which had been entrusted to him by Police Constable 222257, Sannoh A.J. The motorbike was meant to be used for commercial purposes.

Upon the charge being read and explained, Koroma pleaded guilty. The prosecution, represented by Detective Police Constable Tambo E, informed the Magistrate that there were no available records against the accused person.

The accused, who was not legally represented, pleaded for mercy, asking the Magistrate to temper justice with compassion. After considering the plea for leniency, Magistrate Kallon sentenced Koroma to a prison term of thirty-six months at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.

The case highlights the serious consequences of fraudulent conversion, and serves as a reminder of the importance of trust and integrity in handling entrusted property.
