Co-Accused still in Custody… Nurse granted NLe70,000 Bail

Bayoh Kamara, a cleaner; Abdul Karim Kamara, a security guard; and Princess Kanu, a nurse, Tuesday 3rd December 2024, made their first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 on two count charges of Conspiracy- contrary to law, and Office Breaking and Larceny -contrary to Section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, on Friday 15th November 2024 at No. 17 Wilkinson Road- Freetown in the Judicial District of the Western Area of Sierra Leone, the accused persons conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime, to wit, office breaking and larceny.

A charge further stated that on the place and date above with intent to steal, they broke and entered into the office of Rheuma Salone Clinic and stole therein the sum of five thousand, four hundred United States dollars ($5,400), equivalent to one hundred and thirty-one thousand Leones (Le 135,000,00), and in Leones- forty thousand Leones (Le 40,000), all totaling to one hundred and seventy-five thousand Leones (Le 175,000), property of professor Abdou El- Labbam.

when the charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea was given.

The state prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sorie Conteh, sought for proceeding as the complainant was present.

The first and second accused persons were not legally represented, whilst A.M Kamara represented the third accused.

The complainant, Abdou El- Labbam, recognized the first accused person as his clearner, the 2nd as a security guard, and the third as his nurse.

He recalled what happened on the 15th November 2024, when he received a call from his assistant and then went to the office and found out it was destroyed.

The professor noted that the external locks were damaged and he could not find anything in there, and he called the brother of the first accused and told him about the incident.

Abdou furthered that the brother, Sara, brought a female sorcerer who accused the first accused person to have taken Le 175,000, from the safe.

  1. M Kamara applied for bail on behalf of the third accused person who he said would not interfere with the prosecution witness, and that the accused also has reliable sureties who are ready to arraign themselves whenever the matter comes up.

Magistrate Bangura granted bail to the third accused person in the sum of Le 70,000,00 with two sureties in like sum, sureties who must be responsible citizens residing in Freetown. The bail is to be approved by the court, whilst the first and second accused were sent on remand in the male correctional facility in Freetown.

However, the case has been adjourned to the 10th of December, 2024, for further hearings.
