To enhance the effective operations and coordination of the district executives of the National Federation of Farmers Sierra Leone (NaFFSL) in Kailahun,Karene and Falaba Districts, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Henry Musa Kpaka has on the occasion marking the closure of the two days national civic festival at the Miatta Conference Centre, Youyi Building, presented three TVS motor bikes to the beneficiary districts. The bikes were received by the NaFFSL President, Madam Yatta Sama.
Addressing Farmers during the presentation on December 12, 2024, Dr Kpaka recognized the critical role of the Federation has played and is expected to continue to play in achievement of the Government flagship ‘Feed Salone’ programme, championed by H E The President, Dr Julius Maada Bio.
He noted that the motor bikes were provided by the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) to strengthen coordination and operational efficiency of the three districts, and by extension, the NaFFSL.
‘With these bikes we are certain you will be able to reach farmers in hard-to-reach terrains with messages of the Feed Salone agenda and their critical participation’, he said.
Receiving the keys of three motorbikes, the NAFFSL President, Madam Yatta Sama expressed her organization’s profound gratitude and appreciation to both FAO and MAFFS for the consideration of such timely support. “We know the expectations that comes along such donation. We will utilize same to coordinate, mobilize and provide the required information and education that aligns with the feed salone blueprint’, she assured.
Representatives of the three beneficiary districts lauded the minister’s efforts in addressing challenges that affect the effectiveness of the coordination of farmers. They pledged to utilise the motor bikes for the intended purposes.
The NaFFSL Bombali District Coordinator, Madam Kadija Bangura pleaded to FAO through the minister to consider similar support to the remaining districts and even to do more, as a way of enhancing effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.
The two-day maiden national civic festival dubbed, ‘Salone Civic Festival’, was spearheaded by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) and was aimed at promoting national unity, shared responsibility and sustainable development. . It was formally launched by the President of Sierra Leone on the theme, ‘Salone Big pass wi All’.
