Freetown, December 16, 2024 – The Government of Sierra Leone, under the leadership of His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has announced two significant appointments aimed at enhancing judicial and diplomatic services in the country.
In an official public notice released from the Office of the President at State House in Freetown, it was disclosed that Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, whilst Hon. Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards has been appointed as the new Ambassador to Dublin- Ireland.
The notice was signed and issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Emmanuel A.B. Gaima, underscoring the President’s confidence in the appointees’ ability to excel in their new roles.
The appointment of Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda as Chief Justice comes at a critical time when the justice sector in Sierra Leone continues to play a pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring judicial efficiency.
Justice Kamanda, a seasoned and respected jurist, has had a distinguished legal career with years of experience in the judiciary. His appointment is expected to strengthen the administration of justice, foster judicial independence, and enhance public trust in Sierra Leone’s legal system.
The selection of Hon. Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards as Ambassador to Dublin marks a strategic move to bolster Sierra Leone’s diplomatic relations with Ireland. Justice Edwards, known for his vast expertise in law and leadership, will now carry the responsibility of fostering bilateral ties, advancing Sierra Leone’s interests abroad, and promoting international cooperation.
