In a landmark meeting held in Freetown, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone engaged Lieutenant- General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, the President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, to discuss critical issues surrounding peace, security, and humanitarian needs in Sudan and the broader African region. This diplomatic visit underscores Sierra Leone’s ongoing commitment to fostering stability and encouraging conflict resolution on the continent.
The context of the meeting is particularly urgent, as Sudan has been grappling with a devastating humanitarian crisis ignited by ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that began in April 2023.
