After the Tripartite Committee was set up to look into the concerns raised on the outcome of the June 24, 2023 elections, many people in this country hoped that that committee would help correct the doubts emanating from that election; but the recommendations from the Tripartite Committee raised more questions rather than the expected answers or solutions for those against the outcome of the 2023 Presidential election.
The visit of moral guarantors further gave hope for the implementation of the Tripartite Recommendations, but not much has been realized regarding the outcome of the Tripartite Report. And the talk about ‘Elected Justice’ is losing its cadence as time passes.
The 2023 APC Presidential candidate, Samura Kamara, is still giving APC supporters hope; but the current APC National Executive seems to have moved on, preparing for the next general election, instead of trying to get something from the controversial 2023 elections.
All is not lost as efforts are being made to still address the controversies of the June 2023 elections. The US Embassy in Sierra Leone is very serious about the implementation of the 84 recommendations of the Tripartite Committee as indicated by a Facebook post from the Sierra Leone Embassy.
The commitment by the Embassy is in sharp contrast to the motivation of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), which stands to benefit from the implementation. The APC however is lukewarm about the Tripartite in which it participated; otherwise, it should have been exerting more pressure on the SLPP Government than the U.S. Embassy.
When was the last time one heard the APC Executive or the former members of the Tripartite Committee talk about the 84 recommendations, let alone pressurize the Maada Bio Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Government to implement them. Both agendas should be pursued scrupulously, but all the APC is doing is prepare for 2028. Some wonder why the international community seems not to take Sierra Leoneans seriously. If strangers have to cry more than you at your own family funeral, who will take you seriously?
APC is failing to realize that without the full implementation of the 84 recommendations of the Tripartite Committee, it is just wasting the party’s time, the executives’ own time and everybody’s time preparing for 2028.
APC only needs to be serious to press home the demands for the full implementation of the 84 recommendations.
There is however something to cheer over. It is now obvious that the U.S. Embassy in Sierra Leone remain fully engaged and determined that the 84 recommendations be implemented fully before there will be any further progress for the MCC go into force.
The APC needs to become serious like the U.S. Embassy to put the SLPP under intense and sustained pressure to fully implement the 84 recommendations.
