The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sierra Leone paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Morie Lengor Esq. at his Gloucester Street Office in Freetown.
Led by Madam Pauline Macharia, the team’s aim was to discuss plans and activities in rendering their usual support to the Government and people of Sierra Leone through the collaboration of the Ministry and other key Ministries.
Madam Pauline Macharia, Officer in charge IOM office Sierra Leone, congratulated the minister on his appointment, whilst noting that they have been working closely with the ministry in the area of financial and technical support, adding that they have also been very supportive to the Government in returning stranded migrants from Niger and other parts of the country to Sierra Leone.
Madam Macharia further elaborated on their other interventions in supporting the Government, like the Cross Border project under the United Nations Peace Building Fund that is been implemented in the Falaba District, in strengthening sustainable livelihoods for crop farmers and cattle herders, Migration management and the return of Sierra Leonean migrants, Counter – Human Traficking, Crisis Response, programmatic Approaches to climate induced Migration among others.
She thanked and appreciated the Ministry for their unwavering commitment and collaboration in ensuring the Team’s success.
The Minister, in his response, commended the IOM Team for their continued support to the Government and people of Sierra, and pledged his commitment to work closely with the team to forge collaboration.
Minister Lengor Esq. discussed a lot of issues bothering on the return of Migrants, requesting IOMs support for the Ministry’s Strategic Plan, capacity building training for staff and a host of other issues.
Other attendees expressed gratitude to the IOM Team for their support, while expressing optimism for more financial and technical support to the Government and people of Sierra Leone.
