WARDC Commends Sierra Leone Police for Breakthrough in Journalist Samuel Brima Mattia’s Case

The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) joins the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) in commending the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for their significant breakthrough in the investigation into the tragic killing of journalist Samuel Brima Mattia, former Deputy Station Manager of VOPAD Radio 96.5FM.

The arrest and confession of the principal suspect, Joseph M. Lamin, along with the swift apprehension of the alleged hired killers, demonstrate the SLP’s commitment to ensuring justice and accountability.

WARDC condemns all forms of violence and reiterates its unwavering support for a safe and peaceful society where the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including journalists, are protected. The council recognizes the vital role journalists play in fostering transparency, democracy, and development and stands in solidarity with SLAJ in advocating for justice.

As a council, we remain committed to making the Western Area Rural District a safe and secure place for all. We urge the SLP to continue their diligent efforts and ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime face the full force of the law.

WARDC calls on all stakeholders to work together to promote a culture of peace and respect for the rule of law in our district and across Sierra Leone.

Together, we can build a safer and more just society.

Signed,

Chernor Juldeh Bah

IEC Officer – WARDC
