Amadu Sow Barrie, an 18-year-old; Kadijatu Ibrahim Sow, a 22-year- old; and Mariama Barrie made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2, Wednesday, 22nd January 2025, for three count charges of Conspiracy to Defraud Contrary to Law, Obtaining Money by False Pretence Contrary to Section 32 1 of the Larceny Act 1916, and Causing Money to be paid Contrary to Section 32 1 of the Larceny Act 1916.
The charge indicated that the accused, on a date unknown between October 2024 to November 2024 at Grafton, Freetown, in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, with intent to defraud, conspired together with other persons unknown and defrauded Mohamed Sallieu Jakitay, Alusine Bah, Umaru Barrie, Ibrahim Barrie Sulaman Jagitay and Alpha Jalloh, the sum of Two Hundred and Thirty Eight Thousand and Fifty Leones ( NLe 238,050,00) with the pretext that to provide Dubai Visas for their children Isatu Barrie, Habibatu Jagitay, Amadu Jagitay, Sulaiman Jagitay, Abdul Jalloh and Salaiman Jagitay, and at the same time facilitate their travelling to the said country, knowing same to be false.
A charge further indicated that on the same date, the accused persons, with the pretext that they will provide Dubai Visas for their children- Isatu Barrie, Habibatu Jagitay, Amadu Jagitay, Sulaiman Jagitay, Abdul Jalloh and Salaiman Jagitay, and at the same time facilitate their travelling to the said country, knowing same to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty
The accused persons were represented by M A Brima Jah, M Jawara and F A Kamara
The Led Prosecution, Sergeant 3379 Balley, sought for short adjournment date to have proper conference with her witnesses.
The defense counsel applied for bail on behalf of accused persons that they are residents within the Western Area, and that they have sureties to stand for them.
He noted that they would not interfere with prosecution witness, and cited section 79 (2) and (3) of the criminal procedure Act of 1965
Magistrate Bangura granted all accused persons bail in the sum of 200,000.00 each with two sureties each who must be responsible citizens’ resident here in Freetown, the bail condition to be approved by the master and Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The case was adjourned to 3rd of February, 2025, for further proceedings.
