Sierra Leone Opposition Leader in Parliament, Honorable Abdul Kargbo, has suffered a devastating loss after his residence in Lungi, Kaffu Bullom, was engulfed in flames late on the night of Monday, February 24, 2025. The fire completely destroyed the home, leaving behind only ashes and rubble.
Located in Lungi Town, the property was completely consumed by the fire, with eyewitnesses describing how the blaze rapidly spread through the building, destroying everything in its path. Within a very short span of time, the home and its contents were reduced to nothing. The destruction has left Honorable Kargbo and his family devastated, though fortunately, no lives were lost in the tragedy.
Eyewitnesses who were present at the scene reported that the fire appeared suddenly and with little warning, making it difficult for anyone to intervene in time. Neighbors and passersby watched helplessly as the flames tore through the structure, leaving it unrecognizable. “The fire was huge, and it spread very quickly,” one eyewitness stated. “By the time we saw it, the whole house was already in flames.”
The cause of the fire is still unclear, and local authorities are conducting an investigation into what may have sparked the devastating blaze. The Sierra Leone Fire Force has been working to determine the origins of the fire, though it is still too early to confirm whether it was due to electrical issues, human error, or another factor.
Honorable Kargbo, who is a prominent political figure and the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. In a brief statement, he confirmed the loss of his home and belongings, but expressed gratitude to God that he and his family is safe.
Despite the immense emotional and material loss, Kargbo thanked the community for their support and for the outpouring of sympathy he has received.
The incident has drawn attention to the ongoing concerns regarding safety and electrical issues in some parts of Sierra Leone, particularly with the frequent power surges that have been reported in various areas. Many are calling for more stringent safety measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Local authorities and emergency responders have pledged to assist Honorable Kargbo and his family during this difficult time, while members of the public have shown solidarity with the opposition leader, offering their condolences and support.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the community remains hopeful that the situation will be fully resolved, and that Kargbo and his family will find the strength to rebuild from the painful loss.
