A new book exploring the leadership and legacy of former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma is set to spark meaningful conversations about governance, development and democratic leadership in Africa.

Written by Council of Progressives, a data-driven think tank, the book meticulously examines the achievements of the Koroma administration (2007–2018), highlighting how his policies shaped Sierra Leone’s trajectory in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, education and governance.

The book details key milestones, such as the establishment of the National Youth Commission (NAYCOM) to tackle unemployment, the expansion of energy infrastructure from 10MW to 300MW, and efforts to revitalize agriculture, with rice self-sufficiency increasing from 61 PERCENT to 92percent during his tenure. It also underscores President Koroma’s commitment to democratic governance, both during and after his Presidency, positioning him as a model statesman for Africa.

It serves as a blueprint for democratic leadership, emphasizing the importance of long-term planning, institutional strengthening and people-centered governance. It presents the APC years not just as a chapter in Sierra Leone’s history, but as a case study in leadership that could inspire other African nations.

With its meticulous research, compelling insights, and data-driven approach, this book is expected to fuel debates on governance, political accountability and economic progress in Sierra Leone and beyond. As the country navigates its current challenges, the lessons from the Koroma era may prove invaluable in shaping its future.

The Council of Progressives is a group of young intellectuals dedicated to research-based policymaking. Their commitment to fact-based analysis has previously led them to undertake in-depth studies, including a critical examination of the 2023 Sierra Leone elections. Their central belief is that accurate data, not propaganda, should drive governance. In this book, they seek to present a balanced but compelling narrative of how the Koroma administration implemented impactful policies that contributed to Sierra Leone’s modernization and economic growth.

The book will soon be available for purchase both locally and internationally. Readers can look forward to a thought-provoking, well-researched narrative that delves into one of Sierra Leone’s most significant political eras.
