The service, launched on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, in Freetown, offers a simple, secure, and accessible solution for individuals across Sierra Leone to support their loved ones overseas. Speaking at the launch, Mamadou Billy Kolade, Country Head of BnB, described the partnership as a major milestone in supporting the Bank of Sierra Leone’s vision for financial inclusion and digital transformation.
“Today, we are making history once again by launching the ‘Overseas Money’ service. Afrimoney users, whether at home or at work, can now send money abroad effortlessly. This service will not only support consumers but also small business owners and petty traders,” he explained.

Kolade added that the collaboration reflects ambition in action, noting that BnB operates not only in Sierra Leone but also in Canada, the United States, Europe, Guinea, Liberia, Ghana, and across the UEMOA region including Senegal. He further stated that BnB’s footprint spans East, Central, and Southern Africa, enabling seamless remittance services across the continent.

He emphasized BnB’s commitment to making financial services faster, more affordable, and accessible through digital innovations like mobile wallet integration and USSD-based money transfers.
“In Sierra Leone, BnB has become a household name by simplifying remittances and reducing the long journeys people once made to collect funds. Our extensive agent network whether in Freetown or rural areas, is always ready to assist. Our partnership with Afrimoney has made it possible for customers to receive remittances directly into their Afrimoney wallets an especially vital service during the rainy season when travel becomes difficult,” he said
Kolade also praised the Bank of Sierra Leone for fostering a conducive environment for digital innovation.
He noted that the service would help families pay tuition fees, purchase goods from neighboring countries, and support relatives living abroad.
Key benefits of the new service include:
• Send money internationally from Sierra Leone
• No smartphone or internet connection required
• Fast, secure, and easy to use
• Powered by BnB’s global remittance network

Martison Obeng-Agyei, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Afrimoney, said the new service aligns with their mission to make financial services accessible to all Sierra Leoneans.
“Through this partnership with BnB, we are expanding access to international financial services and empowering individuals and communities. Our subscribers can now send money to over ten international destinations directly from their mobile phones.
Afrimoney is committed to enhancing financial inclusion by offering innovative, affordable, and user-friendly digital services to those who may not have access to traditional banks. With just a few steps by dialing *161#, users can now access BnB’s global remittance platform and send money abroad quickly and securely,”
he said.

The partnership between Afrimoney and BnB represents a significant leap forward for mobile money and fintech development in Sierra Leone offering renewed hope and economic empowerment to millions.
