On June 3, 2025, the Sierra Leone-China Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism Project was successfully launched in Jui Hospital. Honorable Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Charles Senessie, Charge d’ Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Wang Peng, Chair of Board of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Prof. Zhang Xin, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sartie Kenneh, Senior Permanent Secretary Mr. Andrew Sorie, Honorable World Health Organization Country Representative Dr. George Ameh, representatives of more than a dozen of other international and non-governmental organizations, Medical Superintendents of Connaught, 34, Jui, Bo Governmental hospitals, and the 26th China Medical Team and many other Sierra Leone doctors and nurses attended the event.
This project is a special initiative of President Xi Jinping. Through pairing Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital, by establishing a telemedicine center and enhancing cardiological, ENT, eye departments, China’s latest and most advanced diagnosis and treatment technologies will be shared with Sierra Leone, which will surely bring new welfare to the Sierra Leonean people.
Minister Senessie, Charge d’ Affaires Wang Peng, Prof. Zhang Xin and others delivered enthusiastic speeches, recalling the deep friendship between China and Sierra Leone in the fight against Ebola, COVID-19 and the recent mpox outbreaks, discussing how to better promoting the project to benefit more people and taking the project as an opportunity to continue deepening cooperation.
After the ceremony, all relevant parties visited the donated medical equipment, the facilities of the newly built telemedicine center and observed various on-site demonstrations.
