On June 5, 2025, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat presented her Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, officially assuming her role as High Commissioner of Canada to Sierra Leone.
During the ceremony, H.E. Montrat reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between Canada and Sierra Leone, expressing her commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation. She also underscored Canada’s Africa Strategy, highlighting the importance of people-to-people ties and the promotion of shared values for sustainable development and Peace & Security.
President Bio warmly welcomed H.E. Montrat and offered a toast to the enduring friendship between the two nations. He emphasized the common bonds shared by Sierra Leone and Canada as members of the Commonwealth and acknowledged Canada’s contribution to the UN Peacebuilding Fund and peacebuilding initiatives in Sierra Leone, which have helped foster an enabling environment for development in Sierra Leone.
President Bio reiterated his government’s full support for strengthening this long-standing relationship and advancing shared priorities, including gender equality, peace, and inclusive growth.
