In a targeted operation against illegal drug activity, the Mano River Division of the Sierra Leone Police has arrested two individuals for unlawful possession of suspected controlled substances. The arrest took place on Sunday, June 1st, in Jendema Town, Sorogbema Chiefdom, Pujehun District.

Led by Detective Sergeant 9523 Bangura John Alusine of the Malema Police Station, the operation resulted in the apprehension of two suspects: Ansu Borsua and Isata Mambu, both residents of Jendema. The two were found with a large quantity of pharmaceutical drugs believed to be Tapentadol and Tramadol—substances classified as dangerous and highly regulated due to their opioid properties and high potential for abuse.

According to police sources, a total of 974 cards and four full packs of the suspected drugs were seized during the operation. These substances are commonly misused across the region, contributing to serious public health risks and rising concerns about addiction and illicit drug distribution.

The arrests were made following credible intelligence received by the police, which indicated suspicious activity involving the distribution of controlled drugs in the area. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, officers from the Mano River Division coordinated a precise operation that led to the successful apprehension of the suspects.

“This operation is a clear demonstration of our commitment to keeping communities safe from the harmful impact of illegal drugs,” said an officer involved in the case. “Our officers acted promptly on intelligence received, and we commend their professionalism and vigilance.”

The suspects are currently in police custody while further investigations are underway to determine the origin of the drugs and whether the case is linked to a larger drug trafficking network operating within or beyond the region.

Tramadol and Tapentadol are pain-relief medications that, while legal for prescribed medical use, are banned from unregulated sale or distribution. The misuse and illegal trade of these drugs have become a growing issue in many parts of Sierra Leone, particularly in border regions like Jendema, which is known as a transit point.

Authorities in the Mano River Division have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, particularly in tackling drug-related offenses. They have called on the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and supporting efforts to keep communities drug-free.

The suspects are expected to be formally charged once investigations are concluded.
