The Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, has donated 22 computers and accessories to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Immigration Department.

The donation was made at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess- Kingtom, aimed at improving data collection and enhancing operational efficiency across these key agencies.

During the ceremony, IGP Sellu emphasized that the rollout of the West Africa Police Information System (WAPIS) coincided with his tenure as Director of Crime Services.

He highlighted that the system’s expansion nationwide is crucial for gathering accurate intelligence on criminal activities within Sierra Leone and the West African sub-region.

He acknowledged the European Union’s support in providing the computers and accessories, noting that such technological advancements are vital for effective data collation and crime management. “Crime can be controlled if we all come together and work collectively towards a common goal,” Sellu stated. “Everyone’s weakness might be another’s strength, but through teamwork, we can overcome challenges and succeed.”

The IGP underscored the importance of robust data collection, especially in criminal investigations.

He urged the ACC to continue providing useful intelligence and called on Immigration officials to maintain accurate records of passport applicants, particularly those acting on behalf of others, to facilitate security screening and identification processes.

“People are supporting us; therefore, we must utilize these tools for their intended purposes to reciprocate this support,” he said. “Police cannot fight crime alone; teamwork is essential for success.” He assured that the computers would be monitored to ensure proper usage and emphasized that reducing crime in Sierra Leone depends on the unity and collaborative effort of security agencies and the citizenry.

Representatives from the recipient agencies expressed appreciation for the gesture. Madam Evelyn Kuyateh, Director of Intelligence and Investigation at the ACC, Mr. Ibrahim Samuel Dugba, Director of Drug Prevention, Education, and Training, and Mr. Amadu Bah, Deputy Chief Immigration, lauded the initiative by the IGP. They pledged their commitment to fostering a harmonious working relationship with the police to fight crime and make Sierra Leone safer.

The event concluded with a group photograph, commemorating the donation of ten computers and accessories to the ACC, Immigration, and two computers to the NDLEA, marking a significant step towards modernizing Sierra Leone’s crime prevention infrastructure.
