The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, has formally given his blessing to the Advance Team of the Formed Police Unit 6 (FPU-6), ahead of their deployment to Somalia for a peacekeeping mission under the AU/UNSOS framework.

The event, held at the Senior Officers’ Mess at Kingtom, comes after the team successfully completed an intensive pre-deployment training, which included rigorous weapons handling and tactical exercises in accordance with international standards.

In a cheerful and proud mood, the Inspector General congratulated the officers, describing their training as “vigorous and intensive.” He urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, reminding them that they would be representing the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), their families, and the entire nation.

Mr. Sellu also expressed his confidence in the team’s leadership, singling out Superintendent Ibrahim M.F. Samura, the Contingent Commander, for his proven track record in discipline and leadership.

“I trust you, and I wish you all the best as you embark on this noble assignment,” the IGP concluded.

In response, Superintendent Samura conveyed his deep appreciation to the IGP, the Executive Management Board of the SLP, and the Government of Sierra Leone for the opportunity to serve on the mission. He pledged that the team would uphold the integrity of the SLP and fly the green, white, and blue flag of Sierra Leone high in Somalia.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Head of Peacekeeping Operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police – John Fayia Tumbay, and ended with a group photograph to mark the occasion.
