QCell-SL, the fastest growing telecommunications company in Sierra Leone, Saturday, 9 August 2025, held a town hall meeting with the people of Kambia to interface, interact, and discuss future plans.

Mohamed Mansaray, the District Council Chairman, welcomed QCell to Kambia and thanked them for organising such a unique town hall meeting. He noted that the event would go down in history as it means a great deal to the people of Kambia.

Mansaray recalled that when QCell first entered Sierra Leone in 2019, many doubted the company’s ability to stand the test of time. However, he said it is now clear that QCell is here to stay, with visible work and readily available products across the country. He emphasized that in today’s world, communication is a necessity, and urge QCell to continue providing quality and affordable services to the people of Sierra Leone.

The Minister of Communications, Technology, and Innovation, Madam Salima Bah, praised QCell for hosting such a meeting to directly engage with the people of Kambia District. She explained that running a telecommunications company is not easy, especially in a market with existing players, as it is capital intensive.

“That is why many companies have come and gone. However, since QCell entered the market, they have not only survived but performed impressively,” she sated.

Madam Bah noted that QCell’s arrival had made the telecom space more competitive, giving customers the opportunity to choose the services that best meet their needs. She also addressed the issue of theft at telecom sites, particularly cable theft, and appealed to communities to safeguard investor property. “If you want development, you must protect the assets of investors, this will give them more confidence to invest in the country,” she said.

She further appealed to QCell to continue offering affordable tariffs so that subscribers can stay connected with their loved ones and use the internet for research and other productive purposes.

In his remarks, Karthik Jayamani, Chief Executive Officer of QCell Sierra Leone, thanked the people of Kambia for turning out in large numbers to support the company and for believing in QCell’s work.

He described QCell as a “listening company” committed to being at the doorstep of its customers, ready to hear their concerns and improve services based on feedback.

He highlighted that since 2019, QCell has built towers across the country, connecting people and offering affordable services to keep them in touch with loved ones.

Jayamani recalled that before starting operations in Sierra Leone, QCell committed to providing quality and uninterrupted telecom services to meet the promise; and the company has worked around the clock and introduced green energy at most sites, ensuring towers run 24/7—even in remote or hard-to-reach areas. “We want people to know that telecom service is no longer a luxury but a necessity that should have no boundaries,” he said.

He further disclosed that QCell is currently expanding its network nationwide and is in the final stages of upgrading to a 5G network. The nationwide launch, he said, will boost internet speeds and improve voice call quality, even in rural areas.
