Kingtom, 19 August 2025 — Fawaz Building Materials (FBM) has donated electrical equipment valued at 400,000 Leones to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to aid in the completion of the Freetown East Regional Headquarters Building on Ross Road. The presentation took place at the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Williams Fayia Sellu.
The donation aims to accelerate the long-overdue construction of the police headquarters, a project that has been underway for over a decade. The construction was initially initiated by the former Regional Commander for Freetown East, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Memunatu Konteh-Jalloh, in collaboration with community stakeholders.
In his remarks, IGP Sellu emphasized the importance of completing the project to improve police working conditions. He recounted that upon assuming leadership of the SLP, he prioritized the construction of police stations nationwide, with the Freetown East headquarters being a key focus.
He disclosed that when Mr. Fawaz Haj, the proprietor of FBM, inquired about how he could assist, the IGP recommended the swift completion of the Ross Road building project. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Haj sent electrical materials suitable for installation in the facility, contributing significantly toward its completion.
The IGP called on other businesspeople and philanthropists to emulate this act of support, describing it as a vital step toward empowering the police force. He expressed optimism about inviting Mr. Haj to attend the official opening of the completed headquarters.
Representing Mr. Fawaz Haj, Mr. Orlando Williams stated that FBM is a household name in Sierra Leone for building materials. He highlighted that after inspecting the project upon request, Mr. Haj decided to send electrical supplies to facilitate its completion.
The event culminated with the formal presentation of the electrical materials by Mr. Williams to IGP Sellu, symbolizing a partnership aimed at enhancing police infrastructure.
