Freetown, 20 August 2025 – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu, on Wednesday embarked on a working visit to the Freetown East Region, aimed at strengthening leadership engagement and assessing police operations on the ground.
He was accompanied by the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Dr. John Martin Senesie.
The visit began with an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Freetown East Regional Police Headquarters at Ross Road. Guided by AIG Francis Meinday and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Emmanuel Kpulun, the Police Chief toured the site and received a detailed briefing on the layout and progress of the new facility.
IGP Sellu later visited the Calaba Town Police Station, where he inspected detention cells, the office of the Officer Commanding (OC), and other operational units.
At the Operational Support Division (OSD) base in Jui, he was received by Superintendent Jusu and observed the unit’s work in enforcing pedestrian use of the overhead crossing, a measure introduced to reduce road accidents in the area.
The Police Chief then proceeded to the Waterloo Division, where he monitored ongoing traffic management and special duty operations at Tombo Junction. He commended the coordination and response efforts of officers stationed there.
The tour concluded at the Rokel Police Station, where IGP Sellu addressed officers, urging them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and a strong commitment to public service.
The working visit, according to the IGP, reflects his determination to move away from “armchair leadership” by engaging directly with frontline officers and assessing policing operations in real time.
