Kingtom, August 2025 – A delegation from Squad R1 2005 has presented four (4) drones and five (5) body cameras to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) as a gesture to boost SLP’s operations especially the Media & Public Relations Department. The donation was spearheaded by one of the Squad members who is now a former police officer (Mr. Eric James Musa) based in the United States of America.
When presenting the items to the IGP William Fayia Sellu on behalf of the Squad, Mr. Eric James Musa recalled his service in the SLP and explained that the drones and body cameras are of high quality to boost the operational efficiency of the police – most especially the Media & Public Relations Department.
“Squad R1 2005 executive has been observing the exemplary leadership of the SLP. We have seen how the SLP has navigated to an enviable height,” affirmed Mr. Musa. “The activities of the police media department has been laudable and we feel compelled to contribute to such incredibly positive portrayal of the image of our institution. No matter how small it is, we need to support our institution.”
He closed by extending calls to other Squads and once members of the SLP who has the means to look for ways they can give back to the institution – SLP. “Even in the USA where I’m coming from, people support the police. This institution natured you to become what you are today. It instilled discipline in you and such traits will forever be embedded in you,” Mr. Musa asserts.
Receiving the items, IG Sellu appreciated the Squad, noting that the items come in the time of need. He noted that the SLP now has a drone operation facility to respond to public order situations. “We recently utilized our drone facility to caution public behavior at Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen. These drones and body cameras will be utilized to expand such services,” mentioned IG Sellu.
IGP Sellu continued by giving special focus to Mr. Eric James Musa, noting that though he is no longer a member in the service yet contributed his hard earned money to support in getting the SLP technologically equipped. “I applaud you (Mr. Musa) for manifesting your love for the SLP. This is indeed a clarion call on others to emulate your steps. To Squad R1 2005, the SLP is proud of you to show gratitude for the role it played in shaping your lives,” blessed IG Sellu.
He continued by recounting his contributions at the Police Training School when he was appointed as Commandant of the school. “So it is good for people who are serving members or had left the police to do likewise,” IG Sellu mentioned.
