Freetown, September 8, 2025 (SLENA):  In a renewed push for global engagement, Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led by Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, has outlined a foreign policy anchored in Section 10C of the 1991 Constitution.

The framework emphasizes the President’s role as Chief Diplomat—setting the vision, directing policy, and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and adherence to international law and treaties.

Speaking to Truth Media, Minister Kabba stressed that Sierra Leone’s policy is guided by non-alignment, mutual respect, and shared interests in bilateral relations, ensuring benefits for both Sierra Leone and its partners.

He noted that the country has earned recognition as a principled voice on the world stage, highlighted by its historic return to the United Nations Security Council after 53 years—a milestone achieved through the leadership of President Bio, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and Ambassador Imran Kanu in New York.

Acknowledging the challenges faced upon joining the Security Council—including overstretched staff and the need for specialized expertise—Minister Kabba revealed that additional personnel were recruited through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Their contributions have been impactful, and the Ministry is working to retain and integrate them permanently into Sierra Leone’s Foreign Service.

He further disclosed that ten UN consultants currently supporting the mission have expressed interest in continuing with Sierra Leone, and efforts are underway to incorporate them into the Foreign Service Academy’s career path, which now provides training for staff, ambassadors, and representatives abroad.

Minister Kabba also emphasized the growing strength of a youthful and vibrant Foreign Service. Many officers are under 50, including female Heads of Chancery in The Gambia and Senegal, who are excelling in their roles. A standout example is a young Sierra Leonean woman in Senegal, who rose from local staff to Head of Chancery—earning high commendations from both the ambassador and the president.

“This new generation of diplomats reflects the energy, values, and capability of Sierra Leone on the global stage,” Kabba affirmed.

Through this dynamic service, Sierra Leone continues to demonstrate its commitment to global peace, security, and principled diplomacy.
