Julius Maada Bio has long harboured an overwhelming ambition to rule Sierra Leone, not through honour or democratic ideals, but through calculated betrayal, deception, and manipulation. His journey to the Presidency is not a tale of patriotic service, but rather a dark story of self-interest and exploitation of our nation.

From the onset, Maada Bio recognized that his rise to power could not be achieved through legitimate or transparent means. Instead, he strategically joined the military, using it as a stepping stone to launch his political aspirations.

In 1992, Maada Bio participated in the coup that overthrew the then APC Government and President Joseph Saidu Momoh. However, his lust for power did not stop there. He would go on to betray his comrade and leader, Captain Valentine Strasser, staging another coup in 1996 to install himself as Head of State, a role he held briefly but destructively.

During his short tenure, Bio looted the nation’s resources, particularly financial assets and mineral wealth. These were reportedly siphoned off to foreign countries, with no accountability or return to the Sierra Leonean people.

In 2012, Bio resurfaced as a civilian Presidential candidate. The people rejected him soundly, with former President Ernest Bai Koroma winning overwhelmingly. Following this loss, Bio fled to England, playing no role in national development or the fight against Ebola. Instead, he and his supporters falsely accused the APC Government of orchestrating Ebola, a deeply irresponsible and divisive narrative.

In 2018, Bio contested again, this time using manipulation, tribal rhetoric, and international lobbying to push for regime change. He campaigned on promises of free education and national unity. Yet, once in power, he failed to deliver on any of them.

Under Bio’s Presidency, Sierra Leone became increasingly polarized. Appointments were based on political loyalty and tribal affiliation rather than merit or qualifications. Opposition members were systematically targeted, and institutions were weakened by partisanship.

After nearly seven years in office, there is little to show in terms of tangible development. Bio continues to deflect blame onto the APC and former President Koroma, instead of taking responsibility for his administration’s failures.

Rather than focus on national development, Bio has diverted state resources to secure political positions, most notably the ECOWAS Chairmanship, serving his personal ambition rather than the people of Sierra Leone.

Julius Maada Bio has repeatedly shown he is not fit to lead, let alone hold the highest office in the land. His track record is one of betrayal, division, corruption, and incompetence. Sierra Leone deserves better, a leader of vision, unity, accountability, and genuine service.
