Residents of Oba Funkia in Goderich- Constituency 109, have celebrated the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream after Ambassador Alie Kabba donated and installed a 10,000-litre Milla water tank to address the community’s chronic water shortages.
For years, families in Oba Funkia struggled with limited access to safe and reliable water, often relying on unsafe sources or traveling long distances to fetch water. The new facility, described by residents as a “lifeline,” is expected to bring lasting relief and improve the daily lives of hundreds of households.
Community members said the intervention goes beyond the installation of a water tank, representing hope, dignity, and unity. Many hailed it as a symbol of genuine leadership driven by compassion and a deep understanding of grassroots needs.
Ambassador Kabba, a respected statesman and philanthropist, said his motivation was rooted in his commitment to sustainable community development. “True service is about improving the lives of people, regardless of politics, status, or affiliation,” he remarked.
The project was implemented by the Constituency Executives under the leadership of Chairman James Fomba, and Zonal Chair Lady Esther Mathews, who coordinated the process to ensure all sections of the community benefit equally. Both ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and opposition All People’s Congress (APC) members will have access to the facility, a fact that residents say underscores the spirit of inclusiveness the initiative represents.
“This project is not about politics,” said Chair Lady Mathews. “It is about responding to the real struggles of our people. Access to clean water is a human right, and Ambassador Kabba has shown us what true leadership looks like.”
Community elders and youth leaders expressed gratitude, highlighting how the water tank will ease the burden on women and children who often bear the responsibility of fetching water. Parents also noted that with safe water readily available, children can now focus more on their studies rather than long treks in search of water.
The initiative also complements the wider development agenda of President Julius Maada Bio, who has prioritized investments in communities across Sierra Leone. Ambassador Kabba’s gesture, stakeholders say, aligns with the President’s vision of improving social services and infrastructure to uplift lives nationwide.
“This intervention is consistent with His Excellency the President’s commitment to deliver progress at the community level,” Chairman Fomba said. “Ambassador Kabba has translated that vision into action here in Oba Funkia.”
Observers have pointed out that sustainable community projects such as this not only improve living standards but also foster unity among citizens. The water tank, they said, will serve as a constant reminder of the importance of compassion, cooperation, and responsible leadership.
Ambassador Kabba’s record of service and philanthropy has earned him respect among different groups. Many residents described him as a shining example of patriotism and people-centred leadership. His intervention, they said, demonstrates that when leaders listen to their people and act decisively, communities thrive.
As the water began to flow in Oba Funkia, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and gratitude. For the community, the new water tank is more than a structure—it is a life-changing reality that will transform daily routines, improve health, and strengthen bonds of unity.
