Former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and former Chairman and Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has celebrated his 72nd birthday, with tributes pouring in from across the country and the diaspora. The celebration went beyond marking another year of life, becoming a moment of reflection on his legacy as a statesman, visionary, and father figure to the APC and many Sierra Leoneans.

Dr. Koroma, who served as Sierra Leone’s President from 2007 to 2018, is widely remembered for introducing reforms and development projects that significantly impacted the nation’s progress. His leadership style, often described as compassionate and inclusive, opened doors for women and youths in politics and empowered countless young people to take up leadership roles across various sectors.

Under his presidency, Sierra Leone saw an expansion in infrastructure, with new roads, improved energy supply, and major investments in education and health. His administration also prioritized attracting foreign direct investment, particularly in the mining and telecommunications sectors, boosting the nation’s economic outlook during his tenure.

Beyond development, Dr. Koroma was admired for his people-centered approach to governance. Many Sierra Leoneans fondly recall his accessibility and willingness to listen, which earned him the reputation of a leader who governed with both discipline and empathy. His emphasis on national unity and peace helped stabilize the country during difficult times, further cementing his place in the hearts of citizens.

On his 72nd birthday, messages of gratitude and admiration flowed from party members, supporters, and ordinary citizens alike. For the APC, Dr. Koroma remains a towering figure who steered the party through significant victories and strengthened its grassroots appeal. His efforts to expand the party’s base and nurture young politicians are seen as a key part of the APC’s continued relevance in Sierra Leone’s political landscape.

“This is not just the birthday of a man, but the celebration of a leader whose vision transformed lives,” one supporter remarked. “His legacy is felt in every community, from improved roads to youth empowerment initiatives that changed the direction of many lives.”

Sierra Leoneans also reflect on Dr. Koroma’s commitment to international diplomacy, where he raised the country’s profile on the global stage. His leadership during crises, including the Ebola outbreak, earned international recognition for the resilience and determination with which Sierra Leone faced challenges under his watch.

As he marks this milestone, many citizens expressed gratitude for his years of service and the enduring impact of his vision. They highlighted his role as a father figure not only within the APC but across the nation, someone who cultivated lives with compassion, discipline, and integrity.

In celebrating Dr. Koroma’s life, Sierra Leoneans also expressed prayers for his continued health, long life, and peace. His enduring influence continues to inspire a new generation of leaders and citizens who see in him a reminder that leadership is about service, vision, and the betterment of society.

As the country honours his 72 years, Dr. Koroma remains a symbol of hope and pride, his legacy standing tall as a testament to the progress Sierra Leone achieved under his stewardship.
