The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has informed the general public that there will be intermittent power interruptions across its supply grid on Thursday, 9th October 2025, as part of the commissioning of the CLSG dispatch system in N’zerekore, Guinea.

According to a public notice issued by the Authority, the exercise involves an end-to-end testing of the CLSG transmission system, scheduled to take place between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The testing is being conducted to assess and enhance the regional power interconnection among member countries under the Côte d’Ivoire–Liberia–Sierra Leone–Guinea (CLSG) electricity network.

The CLSG project, which connects the four West African nations through a high-voltage transmission line, aims to improve electricity supply and promote regional energy integration. The testing of the dispatch system in N’zerekore represents a significant milestone toward achieving full operational coordination and ensuring that all participating countries can effectively monitor and manage electricity distribution in real time.

EDSA explained that the purpose of this exercise is to enable member countries to remotely monitor and operate the interconnection system. This will help improve operational efficiency, enhance power stability, and strengthen cross-border energy collaboration in the subregion.

While acknowledging the potential inconvenience the testing may cause, the Authority emphasized that the interruptions will be temporary and limited to the testing period. EDSA assured customers that once the exercise is concluded, regular electricity supply will be restored immediately.

“The essence of this activity is for member countries to have the opportunity to remotely monitor and operate the interconnection system with the aim to drive real-time operational efficiency,” the Authority stated.

EDSA also expressed appreciation to the public for their patience and understanding, noting that the testing forms part of broader efforts to deliver a more stable and reliable power supply to households, businesses, and industries across Sierra Leone.

The CLSG interconnection project is a flagship initiative of the West African Power Pool (WAPP), designed to strengthen regional energy cooperation and reduce the power deficit in West Africa. Through the system, Sierra Leone stands to benefit from increased access to low-cost, clean, and sustainable electricity from neighboring countries.

With the dispatch system now nearing full operation, today’s test marks another important step in EDSA’s ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s energy infrastructure and ensure efficient electricity management.

EDSA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and keeping the public informed about all developments in the power sector, pledging to continue its mission of delivering improved and dependable electricity services nationwide.
