Serious controversy seems to stem from the unexpected nature of the findings of Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma’s autopsy result of a two-day-old baby who allegedly died of police teargas.
The result, officially issued to the public on Monday 20th October 2025, stated that “the cause of the baby’s death was due to multiple blunt force fractures/injuries of: head, neck and chest.”
The result reads as follows: “Multiple blunt force fractures/injuries of head, neck and chest due to accidental fall from a height.” Other significant conditions contributing to “dislocation fractures of the cervical vertebrae with corresponding spinal cord injuries at levels C2-C4.”
On Saturday 11th October 2025, Dr. Owizz performed an autopsy on the baby who allegedly died after being exposed to teargas fired by police forces at Kuntorlor in Freetown.
According to residents at Kuntorlor community, this autopsy result might have contributed to the widespread disbelief of the due to the unusual circumstances of the baby’s death.
It’s worth noting that Dr. Owizz has been involved in several high-profile cases, and his findings have sometimes been met with scepticism. For instance, in 2020, he testified in the murder trial of journalist Ibrahim Samura, stating that the deceased sustained a fracture to his skull and backbone, resulting from bltrauma to the head. In another case, Dr. Owizz concluded that a four-year-old girl was raped before being killed.
In contrast, there was a case where Dr. Owizz’s findings were disputed in court, and the judge threw out his report due to lack of credibility. This inconsistency in the reception of his findings might contribute to the public’s scepticism, some of Kuntorlor community stakeholders disclosed.
