The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority (SLPA) has handed over US$7 million to the Government of Sierra Leone as part of its annual revenue contribution to the state. The official presentation was made by the Director General of the Authority, Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio, during a ceremony held in Freetown.
Mr. Bio explained that the amount represents revenue generated through port-related services, including terminal operations, vessel charges, port fees, and other commercial activities under the Authority’s portfolio. He said the contribution underscores SLPA’s commitment to its operational mandate and to supporting the broader national development agenda.
“This handover is a reaffirmation of the Authority’s role as a partner in national growth. With transparency, prudent management, and strategic planning, public institutions are capable of delivering positive results for the benefit of the country,”

Receiving the funds on behalf of the Government, the Minister of Transport and Aviation commended the Ports Authority for its exemplary leadership, financial discipline, and consistent efforts to strengthen Sierra Leone’s maritime sector. He noted that the funds will support key government priorities, particularly in infrastructure expansion, maritime security, and enhanced public service delivery.
The contribution is regarded as one of the most significant annual remittances made by the SLPA in recent years, reflecting improved efficiency, accountability, and performance within the Authority. It also reinforces investor confidence in Sierra Leone’s maritime industry.
Mr. Bio further highlighted ongoing reforms at the SLPA, including infrastructure upgrades, modernized operational systems, and the continued digitization of port services aimed at boosting revenue and enhancing service delivery in the years ahead.
