The Audit Service Sierra Leone has officially submitted the Auditor General’s Annual Report on the Accounts of Sierra Leone for the year ended December 31, 2024 to Parliament.

According to a press release issued in Freetown on December 15, 2025, the report was formally presented to Parliament on Monday, December 15, 2025, in line with constitutional requirements. The Audit Service Sierra Leone stated that the report will be made available to the public through its official website after it has been tabled and debated in Parliament.

The submission of the annual audit report is a key accountability process aimed at promoting transparency and prudent management of public resources. It provides Parliament and the general public with an independent assessment of how public funds were managed during the 2024 financial year.

Section 119 subsection 2 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone mandates the Auditor General to audit the public accounts of the country and all public offices. These include the courts, central and local government administrations, universities, and public institutions of a similar nature. The mandate also extends to statutory corporations, companies, and other bodies or organizations established by an Act of Parliament or statutory instrument, as well as those funded partly or wholly from public funds.

In addition, Section 119 subsection 4 of the Constitution requires the Auditor General to submit the audit report to Parliament within twelve months of the end of the immediately preceding financial year. The Constitution further directs that the report should draw Parliament’s attention to any irregularities discovered in the audited accounts and highlight any other matters the Auditor General considers necessary for legislative scrutiny.

The Audit Service Sierra Leone noted that the 2024 audit report fulfills this constitutional obligation and reinforces the institution’s commitment to strengthening accountability and financial discipline across public institutions.

Once tabled in Parliament, the report is expected to be referred to the relevant parliamentary committees for review and deliberation. Lawmakers will examine the findings, question accounting officers where necessary, and make recommendations aimed at improving financial management and addressing any identified weaknesses.

The Audit Service Sierra Leone reaffirmed its mission to serve as a leading audit institution that promotes excellence, integrity, and accountability in the management of public resources. The institution emphasized that timely audits and public reporting remain critical tools in supporting good governance and restoring public confidence in state institutions.

Members of the public, civil society organizations, and development partners are encouraged to engage with the report once it is published, as part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and ensure that public funds are used for their intended purposes.

The submission of the Auditor General’s 2024 Annual Report marks another important milestone in Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic oversight and accountability in public financial management.
