The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H E Zhao Yong, has hosted a reception to mark the assumption of his official duties, bringing together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community and representatives from various sectors of society.
The reception, held on January 16, attracted more than 130 guests. Among those in attendance were His Lordship Chief Justice Kamanda, the Minister of Energy and other cabinet ministers, Director General Logan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, senior military officers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Chinese enterprises and members of the Chinese community in Sierra Leone.
In his address, Ambassador Zhao Yong described the relationship between China and Sierra Leone as long standing and resilient. He noted that in recent years, high level exchanges between the two countries have intensified, while practical cooperation in key areas has continued to expand. According to the ambassador, these engagements reflect the strong political trust and shared development goals between the two nations.
Ambassador Zhao reaffirmed China’s readiness to work closely with Sierra Leone to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state. He said this cooperation would serve as an opportunity to further elevate bilateral relations and promote development initiatives that benefit both countries. He also highlighted China’s commitment to contributing to the building of an all weather China Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, Director General Logan warmly welcomed Ambassador Zhao on his assumption of office. He described China as a trusted and reliable partner that has consistently supported Sierra Leone’s development efforts over the years. He emphasized that the Sierra Leonean government places high importance on strengthening its relationship with China.
Director General Logan also reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s firm commitment to the one China principle. He expressed the government’s willingness to work closely with China to achieve more tangible results through mutually beneficial cooperation, particularly in areas that support national development and economic growth.
The event was characterized by a warm and friendly atmosphere, with guests engaging in cordial interactions and exchanges. Attendees welcomed Ambassador Zhao and expressed optimism about the future of China Sierra Leone relations under his leadership.
The reception received extensive coverage from major media outlets in Sierra Leone, reflecting public interest in the continued partnership between the two countries.
