Osman Timbo Esq., a flagbearer aspirant of the All Peoples Congress APC, has called on party members to put unity above all else as the party prepares for lower level elections and positions itself for a return to governance in 2028.
Speaking on AYV’s Wake Up Sierra Leone, Hon Osman Timbo acknowledged growing concerns about internal tensions within the APC but stressed that the situation is being exaggerated by some observers. He said while there are signs of toxicity within the party, it is not as severe as what was experienced during previous election cycles.
“I feel things are becoming a bit toxic, even though it is not as bad as in previous elections,” Timbo said. “The first thing we must do is unite the party, because once the party is united and we take up governance in 2028, we will work to unite the nation.”
Timbo emphasized that party unity should not be delayed until the selection of a flagbearer. According to him, the process of reconciliation and cooperation must begin now if the APC is to present itself as a credible alternative to the electorate.
He explained that he has already started playing key roles behind the scenes to bring party members together across different levels and factions. He said his engagement is driven by a belief that unity is the foundation for electoral success and effective governance.
“I do not want to wait until I become the party flagbearer before uniting the party,” he noted. “I have already started contributing to efforts aimed at bringing our people together.”
The APC flagbearer aspirant also pushed back against narratives suggesting that the party is deeply divided beyond repair. He said the internal challenges facing the APC are manageable and should not distract members from the larger goal of reclaiming state power through democratic means.
Timbo called on party members to rise above personal interests and ambitions, urging them to place the collective future of the APC first. He extended this call not only to registered members but also to sympathizers and non members who believe in the party’s vision for national development.
As the lower level elections draw closer, Timbo said the period should be used as an opportunity to strengthen unity rather than deepen divisions. He stressed that every engagement, campaign activity and internal contest must be approached with a sense of responsibility and respect for the party’s long term objectives.
He added that a united APC would be better positioned to convince Sierra Leoneans that it is ready to return to governance in 2028 with a message of national cohesion and progress.
Timbo concluded by urging supporters to remain focused, disciplined and committed to peace within the party, noting that unity today will determine the APC’s chances of success tomorrow.
