Africell Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s media sector by sponsoring the SLAJ Media Iftar 2026, held at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation compound in Freetown.
The annual event brought together journalists, editors, bloggers, and other media practitioners from across the country during the holy month of Ramadan. It provided a platform for members of the media fraternity to break the fast together, share a meal, and offer prayers in a spirit of unity, reflection, and solidarity.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Africell Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer Shadi Gerjawi said the company’s support for the event reflects its long standing culture of promoting and strengthening the media landscape in Sierra Leone.
Gerjawi noted that the media plays a critical role in society by informing the public, promoting transparency, and shaping national conversations. He added that Africell values the work of journalists and remains committed to initiatives that support and uplift the media community.
According to him, partnerships between corporate institutions and the media are important for national development. He said Africell believes that supporting platforms that bring journalists together helps to build stronger professional relationships and encourages collaboration within the sector.
The SLAJ Media Iftar has become a key event on the calendar of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists during Ramadan. Each year it creates a space where media professionals from different institutions and backgrounds can gather in a relaxed environment away from their busy newsrooms.
Participants at the event expressed appreciation to Africell Sierra Leone for its continued support to the media fraternity. Many noted that such gestures strengthen the bond between journalists and corporate partners who recognize the value of a vibrant and responsible media sector.
The gathering also served as a moment of reflection during Ramadan, allowing journalists to observe the religious significance of the season while engaging with colleagues and industry stakeholders.
Organizers highlighted that the event is not only about sharing a meal but also about strengthening unity within the media community. By bringing practitioners together, the Media Iftar helps to foster mutual respect, dialogue, and cooperation among journalists working in different parts of the country.
Africell’s support for this year’s Media Iftar once again demonstrated the company’s continued partnership with the media and its recognition of the important role journalists play in national development.
As the evening concluded, participants shared prayers and goodwill, reaffirming their collective commitment to responsible journalism and national progress. The event also reinforced the importance of collaboration between the media and corporate partners in promoting an informed and engaged society in Sierra Leone.
