A tragic incident in Susan’s Bay in eastern Freetown has left a community in shock after a young man, Abubakarr Jeremaya Kamara, was fatally stabbed on Saturday, March 21, following a confrontation that turned violent.
According to reports, the incident started as a minor disagreement but quickly escalated into a deadly attack. The main suspect, identified as Pa Sao Marrah, is alleged to have led a group of associates who confronted the victim during the dispute.
Community sources say tensions had been building prior to the incident. The chairman of the area, Abubakarr Kalala, disclosed that the suspect had earlier issued threats and was known for disturbing the peace within the community. He further alleged that Marrah had openly threatened to kill someone and had gathered a group believed to be from Mount Aureol before the attack took place.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the situation became chaotic as the group descended on the victim. During the confrontation, Kamara was stabbed, sustaining injuries that later led to his death. Residents described the scene as frightening, with many unable to intervene due to the intensity of the violence.
The victim’s mother, Mabinty K Sillah, reportedly witnessed the horrific act. She has since called for justice, urging authorities to ensure that the suspect is apprehended and prosecuted. Family members and residents have also expressed deep anger and grief over the killing, calling for stronger measures to address rising violence in the area.
Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Community members say his escape has heightened fear among residents, many of whom are worried about their safety.
Authorities have been urged to act swiftly to bring the suspect to justice. Residents are calling on the Sierra Leone Police to intensify efforts to track down Marrah and anyone else connected to the crime.
Under the laws of Sierra Leone, murder carries severe penalties, including long term imprisonment ranging from 30 years to life. Legal experts say the case, once prosecuted, could attract the full weight of the law if the suspect is found guilty.
As investigations continue, the people of Susan’s Bay remain united in their demand for justice, hoping that those responsible will be held accountable and that peace can be restored to their community.
