Njala University, Bo Campus, Kowama Location, 25th March 2026— The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Bo Campus, Professor Rashid Ansumana, has described the sod-turning ceremony for the Medical School Building as a historic milestone in the institution’s growth. Speaking at the event on Wednesday 24th March 2026, he welcomed dignitaries, government representatives, development partners, and community stakeholders to what he called a defining moment for the campus.
Professor Rashid Ansumana said the ceremony reflects deliberate efforts to transform Bo Campus into a center of excellence for medical education, research, and innovation. He noted that the initiative aligns with national priorities in strengthening healthcare systems and expanding access to quality higher education.
The Progressive Deputy Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Government of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, the Ministry of Health, traditional authorities, and partners including Tulane University for their continued support. According to him, their collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing education and healthcare delivery in the country.
Highlighting ongoing reforms, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor emphasized that Bo Campus is undergoing strategic transformation focused on academic excellence, research, student welfare, infrastructure expansion, digital transformation, and global partnerships. He described the Medical School project as a central pillar in this agenda.
He Ansumana further explained that the facility will expand opportunities for Sierra Leoneans to train as doctors and health professionals, strengthen practical and laboratory-based learning, and support research addressing local health challenges. The project, he added, will contribute directly to national development.
Prof. assured that the University is committed to providing functional laboratories, qualified faculty, and a conducive learning environment, alongside strong collaboration with both national and international partners.
The DVC also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to building a safe, inclusive, and student-centered campus, while thanking traditional leaders and the Bo community for their continued partnership and support.
Describing the ceremony as more than symbolic, Professor Ansumana said it signals a clear direction for the future, noting that Njala University is advancing steadily while Bo Campus continues to expand its impact in Sierra Leone.
