On July 29, four friendship organizations, including the Sierra Leone-China Foundation, the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Society, the Sino-Sierra Leone Alumni Association, and the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Association, jointly issued a statement to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sierra Leone. The statement highly commends the fraternal bond and the fruitful outcomes of practical cooperation between the two countries.
The statement noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, the relationship between China and Sierra Leone has always been grounded in mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. China has become Sierra Leone’s largest trading partner. Chinese-aided infrastructure projects such as the National Stadium and the Youyi Building, have injected strong momentum into Sierra Leone’s economic and social development. With China’s strong support, Sierra Leone also successfully overcame the Ebola Epidemic. The letter specifically recalls Sierra Leone as a co-sponsor of UNGA Resolution 2758 and has long adhered to the one-China principle. Looking ahead, the four friendship organizations express their shared wish for the continued groeth and further elevation of the bilateral relations between China and Sierra Leone.
