Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray, of the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, formally swore in the newly appointed Chairperson and Board of Trustees for the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) on the 17th March, 2026. This ceremony solidifies the government’s renewed commitment to broadening social safety nets and securing institutional stability for Sierra Leone’s pension administrator.

NASSIT Director General, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, opened proceedings by framing the investiture as a crucial constitutional tradition. He contextualized the event against recent institutional challenges, specifically noting the leadership void created by the passing of two consecutive Board Chairmen. Daboh extended profound gratitude to the President for appointing Madam Isata Marah, asserting her arrival restores essential stability and strategic direction to the Board.

Minister Swaray addressed attendees, articulating a vision for NASSIT that extends beyond its original mandate. He underscored the Trust’s profound impact on Sierra Leonean lives, safeguarding citizens during retirement or unforeseen hardship. The Minister lauded Madam Marah’s qualifications, highlighting over twenty-five years of experience in financial services, corporate banking, and her previous role within the Public Partnership Unit at the Office of the President.

However, he issued a firm call for unwavering accountability, directly addressing public discourse surrounding the management of contributors’ funds. Swaray assured the Board of continued governmental support to strengthen operations and expand nationwide reach.

Accepting her role, Board Chairperson Isata Marah expressed sincere gratitude for presidential confidence. She paid tribute to her departed predecessors, acknowledging the gravity of responsibility now entrusted to her leadership.
