The Vice President II of the Old Prince Waleans Association, Mr Alhaji Dauda Musa Bangura, has donated NLe10,000 to support student development initiatives at Prince of Wales School, reinforcing the role of alumni in advancing both academic and extracurricular growth.
The donation was shared equally between the school’s Scout unit, known as the 6th Freetown Troop, and the Class of 2006, with each group receiving NLe5,000. The funds are expected to support activities that promote leadership, discipline, and student engagement within the school community.
Speaking during the presentation, Bangura said the contribution reflects his personal commitment to giving back to his alma mater and supporting the next generation of Prince Waleans. He emphasized the importance of investing in young people and creating opportunities that help them grow academically and socially.
“This support is meant to strengthen both the scouting body and the Class of 2006. I believe in investing in young people and encouraging them to strive for excellence,” he said.
The gesture has been welcomed by members of the school community, who described it as timely and impactful. Beneficiaries noted that the support would go a long way in enhancing their planned activities, particularly those aimed at building teamwork, leadership skills, and community service.
The 6th Freetown Troop, which has a longstanding tradition within the school, plays a key role in instilling discipline and civic responsibility among students. Similarly, the Class of 2006 continues to contribute to the school through organized initiatives that support current students and strengthen alumni ties.
Observers say the donation highlights the growing influence of alumni associations in supporting educational institutions across Sierra Leone. In many schools, former students have increasingly stepped in to complement limited resources by funding projects, mentoring students, and promoting a culture of excellence.
For Prince of Wales School, one of the country’s historic secondary institutions, such contributions remain vital in sustaining its legacy and improving student outcomes. Alumni engagement has been instrumental in maintaining standards and encouraging students to uphold the values associated with the institution.
Bangura’s intervention also serves as an example to other alumni, demonstrating how collective efforts can make a meaningful difference in the lives of students. By supporting both academic and extracurricular initiatives, stakeholders believe that students are better positioned to develop into well rounded individuals.
As the school continues to benefit from alumni support, there are renewed calls for more former students to contribute toward initiatives that will strengthen the institution and inspire future generations.
