The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion has formally invited the leadership of the All People’s Congress to participate in a high level consultative meeting with International Moral Guarantors, as part of ongoing efforts to track progress on the Agreement for National Unity and the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee Report.

The invitation was conveyed in an official letter dated April 7, 2026, and signed by the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Hawa Samai. According to the correspondence, a joint delegation of International Moral Guarantors is scheduled to visit Sierra Leone from April 13 to April 17, 2026, for a follow up mission aimed at assessing the level of implementation achieved so far.

The mission will be jointly led by Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, who also serves as Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel. She will be supported by technical staff drawn from various partner institutions involved in the peace and governance process.

According to the letter addressed to the APC Secretary General, the visiting delegation will engage a wide range of stakeholders across the country. These consultations are expected to help develop practical modalities and a clear roadmap for monitoring the implementation of both the Unity Agreement and the Tripartite Committee Report, which were established to strengthen political dialogue and national cohesion.

As part of its schedule, the delegation has specifically requested a meeting with the leadership of the APC. The engagement is set to take place at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday April 14, 2026, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Discussions during the session are expected to focus on key national issues, including peace building, political cooperation, and the effective implementation of agreed recommendations.

The Commission noted that a detailed agenda has already been shared with the APC leadership to guide the discussions. It expressed optimism that the meeting will provide a constructive platform for dialogue and contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at consolidating peace and strengthening national unity.

This latest development highlights continued regional and international interest in Sierra Leone’s political stability and democratic progress. The involvement of International Moral Guarantors reflects a broader commitment by global and regional actors to support the country in maintaining peace and fostering inclusive governance.

Observers say the follow up mission is a crucial step in ensuring that commitments made under the Unity Agreement are translated into concrete actions. They note that sustained engagement with political parties and other stakeholders remains essential in building trust and preventing tensions.

As Sierra Leone continues to navigate its post dialogue phase, the role of institutions such as the ICPNC remains central in promoting reconciliation and national cohesion. The upcoming consultations are therefore expected to serve as an important moment for reflection, assessment, and renewed commitment to the principles of unity and democratic stability.
