The event, held at the Ministry of Youth Affairs, brought together young diplomats, government officials and key stakeholders, creating a platform for dialogue, collaboration and cultural exchange. It also underscored the growing importance both countries place on involving young people in diplomacy and national development.

Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhao Yong, welcomed the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, alongside other distinguished guests and youth representatives. In his remarks, Ambassador Yong highlighted the long standing relationship between China and Sierra Leone, describing it as one rooted in mutual respect and shared development goals.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, particularly in areas that support youth empowerment and capacity building. According to him, young people remain central to the future of both nations, and investing in their growth is key to sustainable progress.

“Sierra Leone and China enjoy a strong and enduring partnership built on mutual respect and shared development goals. We remain committed to deepening this cooperation, particularly in empowering young people who are central to the future of our nations,” Ambassador Yong stated.

Minister Ibrahim Sannoh expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued support to Sierra Leone, especially in sectors that directly impact young people. He noted that such engagements provide valuable opportunities to expand skills development, innovation and leadership among the country’s youth.

“We sincerely appreciate the consistent support from the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone. We look forward to further strengthening this partnership to create more opportunities that will empower our youth and accelerate national development,” Sannoh said.

Participants at the symposium engaged in discussions on the role of youth in diplomacy, economic growth and international cooperation. The gathering also provided an avenue for young leaders to exchange ideas and explore ways to translate dialogue into practical initiatives.

The event concluded on a positive note, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation and investing in youth driven development. Attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and optimism about the future of Sierra Leone China relations.

The symposium forms part of broader efforts by both governments to strengthen bilateral ties while ensuring that young people play an active role in shaping policies and driving national progress. It also highlighted the importance of sustained partnerships in unlocking opportunities for the next generation of leaders in Sierra Leone.
