Several communities across Freetown are currently experiencing power outages following a heavy storm that damaged sections of the electricity distribution network, the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority has confirmed.
In a public notice, the Authority stated that the storm caused faults on key parts of the network, resulting in widespread service disruption in a number of areas. Communities affected include Barmouth, Murray Town Barracks, Grammar School, Okeky, KADCO, Kuntorloh, Spur Road, Spur Loop, Chinese, Orugu Village, Upper Medical Store, New England and surrounding locations.
Residents in these areas reported sudden outages shortly after the storm, with many expressing concern over the impact on businesses and daily activities. The disruption has affected homes, small enterprises and essential services that rely heavily on a steady power supply.
According to the Authority, technical teams were immediately dispatched after the damage was identified. Engineers have since assessed the situation and begun repair works on the affected خطوط and infrastructure. The Authority assured the public that efforts are focused on restoring electricity as quickly as possible while maintaining safety standards.
Officials noted that storms of this magnitude often cause damage to poles, cables and other components of the distribution network, leading to temporary outages. They explained that restoring supply requires careful inspection and repair to prevent further complications once power is returned.
The Authority also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the outage, acknowledging the challenges residents face during such disruptions. It appealed for patience and cooperation from the public as crews continue their work across the affected communities.
“We understand the difficulties this situation has created for our customers and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” the statement noted. “Our teams are on the ground and working tirelessly to ensure that supply is restored in the shortest possible time.”
Residents have been advised to remain cautious around damaged electrical installations and to report any exposed wires or unsafe conditions to the relevant authorities. Safety, officials emphasized, remains a top priority during the restoration process.
The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority reaffirmed its commitment to improving service reliability and responding promptly to emergencies. It added that updates will be provided as work progresses and power is gradually restored to the affected areas.
Electricity supply is expected to return in phases once repairs are completed and the network is deemed safe for operation.
