On the 6th August 2026, Central University has reached a significant milestone in its academic development following the approval of its Graduate School and six master’s degree programmes by the Board of Directors of the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
The approval, announced on Thursday, 6 August 2026, marks the official introduction of postgraduate education at Central University and represents a major step forward in the institution’s efforts to expand advanced learning, research, innovation, and professional development.
The six approved master’s degree programmes are:
- Master of Science in Computer Science
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Master of Science in Information Systems and Management
- Master of Science in Data Management and Analytics
- Master of Science in Agroecology
- Master of Science in Waste Reduction and Management
According to Africanus Snr., Director of Quality Assurance and International Affairs at Central University, the approval represents a significant milestone in the university’s development.
“The approval of Central University’s Graduate School and six master’s degree programmes marks a significant milestone in the university’s journey toward expanding postgraduate education, research, innovation, and professional development.” he stated
The establishment of the Graduate School is expected to create opportunities for professionals, academics, and other qualified learners to pursue advanced studies in fields considered important to Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.
The university said the achievement reflects the collective dedication and commitment of its faculty, management, and staff towards maintaining academic standards and promoting excellence.
The introduction of the postgraduate programmes is also expected to strengthen Central University’s contribution to research and innovation while equipping professionals and future leaders with advanced knowledge and skills.
Africanus Snr. further highlighted the broader significance of the new programmes, stating:
“The introduction of these postgraduate programmes strengthens Central University’s role in advancing research and innovation while preparing professionals and leaders to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.”
The institution has expressed appreciation to the Tertiary Education Commission and the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education for their confidence in the university’s academic standards, as well as to members of the Central University community who contributed to the achievement.
The approval comes as Central University continues to expand its academic offerings and institutional development, positioning the university to play a greater role in postgraduate education, research, and innovation in Sierra Leone.
The establishment of the Graduate School therefore opens a new chapter in Central University’s academic journey, with the six master’s degree programmes providing the foundation for its postgraduate education.
