The Government of Sierra Leone through the ministry of information and civic education is set to take its Civic Day Series to the United States as part of activities surrounding the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Civic Day USA Edition is scheduled for September 24, 2026, and is expected to bring together senior government officials, members of the Sierra Leonean community and other stakeholders for discussions on national development and civic issues.
The event will be hosted by the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, as the government continues its wider civic engagement programme. Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohamed Rado Swaray and several other ministers and senior government officials are listed among the speakers for the programme.
The event is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Daylight Studio, located at 450 W 31st Street, 10th Floor, New York.
According to information released ahead of the event, the Civic Day USA Edition will provide an opportunity for the government to engage Sierra Leoneans living in the United States and other interested participants on issues affecting the country.
The programme is expected to provide space for discussions around national development, civic responsibility and the role of citizens in the country’s development process.
The New York event forms part of the government’s broader Civic Day Series, which has been used as a platform for public engagement and discussion on national issues.
The initiative is being conducted under the banner #SaloneBigPasWiAll, which the government has used to promote public participation and civic engagement.
The decision to take the programme to the United States also provides an opportunity for Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora to participate in discussions involving national affairs.
The event comes as senior Sierra Leonean officials participate in various engagements linked to UNGA 81 in New York.
Government representatives attending the United Nations General Assembly are expected to use the period to engage international partners and the Sierra Leonean diaspora on matters relating to development, governance and international cooperation.
The Civic Day USA Edition will add a civic engagement component to these activities, bringing government officials and members of the public together outside Sierra Leone.
Registration for the event is available online, with participants expected to attend the programme at the scheduled venue.
The government has continued to use civic education and public engagement as part of efforts to encourage citizens to participate in national discussions.
The New York edition is therefore expected to extend that engagement to the Sierra Leonean community in the United States while providing a platform for dialogue on the country’s development priorities.
